Black Pepper Poulet!

So I went grocery shopping yesterday, to pick up some food stuffs for my house. I was sick for 3 days (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) so I had nothing to stuff into my mouth hence my belly! Hungry for days, had Milo and instant noodles. I wanted to make porridge, like pork porridge or chicken porridge or plain porridge, but I don't have Bovril/Marmite or century eggs. So I thought, Maggi mee will do!! Hehe.

Oh yeah, so I bought this buy 1 free 1 chicken breast, (cheapskate) Monoprix is currently having this promotion, some stuffs are buy 1 get 1 free. It was really my day because I got the last jar of free Nutella, and also the last loaf of wholemeal bread! This will kill my hunger, I thought.

Black pepper chicken, it's so simple since I used the Lee Kum Kee black pepper paste. I heat up the oil, toss in some onions, cook it until it's, well, cooked. Hahaha! (Sorry, don't have the mood to look up vocabularies for cooking.) And then, cook the chicken pieces/strings/whatever. And when it looked like it's cooked, scoop in some black pepper paste and stir stir stir. It was my first time with this lovely paste so I decided to taste it first, in case it's too sour/sweet/spicy. And indeed it was salty. Alors I had to add in some sugar, and to add up some tiny winy sweety soury taste, I put in 1 scoop of sauce aigre douce.. Toss toss toss, stir stir stir until desired color and taste and voila!

Served with hot rice, buon appetito!

This dish definitely tasted so heavenly, after being a vegetarian for a week or plus! I need meat! I need meat! I definitely need meat! Hehehe!

Late Chinese New Year Cookies!

Hellllllloooooooo fellow readers! Haha! It has been so long since I've last posted something here. Well, you've guessed it, assignments, workloads, travellings, plain tiredness et cetera forced me to négligent this cute little cooking blog. And also I've mentioned earlier in my personal blog that it will be difficult for me to update this cuisine journal as I now own a very small working space so cooking is hard for me. :| Nevertheless, I've been trying new stuffs as well every now and then, and everytime I cook/bake I will photo them up, so whatever it is, I will still post up stuffs in here!

We celebrated CNY last month and I felt like it has been half year already!! Everyone at home had a real blast gambling and collecting red packets, oh I know that and I envy! But I had fun as well!! Celebrated CNY with the Malaysian embassy in Paris and oh boy, they do serve cheap food there! Well I said cheap, but not good! Hehe. But seriously, I am always disgusted by how the chinese restaurants here are usually patroned by vietnamese. For goodness' sake, chinese food and vietnamese aren't the same. And nems are not chinese!!!

Talking about nems, I made those little popia (mini prawn roll crackers) for CNY, and attention, these are non halals! :P I couldn't find the recipe to make those prawn fillings, so instead of prawn, I used pork floss!! Well we can definitely make the halal version by of course using chicken floss!

So what you gonna need is some spring rolls sheet, pork floss, egg white and a board. And you don't even need instructions, just look at these photos and you will know how to do!!

Fry the in a wok of oil, and when they turn golden or brownish, you'll know they're cook! Don't be hard on the fire, medium is already good enough!!!

And voilà!! The most classic bottle for the mini prawn rolls! I know this is hell late, but what the heck!! Happpy chinese new year, I wish everybody had a blast partying gambling and whatsoever!!

=)

Bak Kut Teh!

Hello guys! It has been so freaking long since I've last posted my recipe in this blog! Hahaha! I've been busy with classes and assignments, especially now that the new semester started!

This morning I went to the new Asian market in town to get my instant noodles, I won't be having much time to cook during this semester, as I have only 1 hour for lunch break, Monday till Wednesday! I am now depending on instant noodles! I know it's not healthy to always have to eat them, but well I guess it's not that bad especially it can help me burn down some calories! I've heard that instant noodles can be very fattening and fat, but I remembered I lost 6 kilos last year eating instant noodle for lunch the whole month! So I guess it can work that way again this time! :D

Oh yeah, talking bout Asian market, I bought the A1 Bak Kut Teh spices, genuinely made in Malaysia!! Finally stuffs from Malaysia!! :D

And the preparation is so easy! Get ready : 2 whole large garlic, 500g of pork (whatever type can go well but best is ribs!), 500g of other meat, like meatball, and stuffs like that, shittake mushrooms, lettuce, 2 teaspoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of dark soysauce.

And voila, you'll have something like this!!

Bon appetit!!!!! ^^

Fish & Chips with carrots à la creme champignon and roasted potatoes!

What a long name!! It has been so long since I last posted a recipe here!! I was so terribly busy with assignments and also exams, and I didn't realize about time passing so fast. Today is my birthday! Lol, but yeah, I'm actually spending it alone already now.

Ok so here is the recipe for Fish & Chips with carrots à la creme champignon and roasted potatoes! Hahahaha!

Ingredients :

For the fish,
1 Egg
Flour
Salt
2 fillets of any fish you want. (I used Panga)
1 pan of oil for deep frying

Dip the fish fillets on to the egg, and then on the flour. For the flour, I used 50% of all purposed flour, and another 50% of corn flour. I don't know why, but it turned out pretty crunchy, haha! :P Ok so not to forget to add pinches of salt on the dipped fish fillet, and I added some spicy powder too, just for the smell. There voilà! Deep fry it in the hot oil.

Fry it until it's bright brown/yellow.

Roasted potatoes :
1 whole potatoes, slice them like how you want to. Add olive oil on top of the potatoes, and then sprinkle some origano, salt and some pepper too.
Heat up your oven to 200°C and heat it for about 20 minutes or until the potatoes turned brown.

Carrots à la creme champignon :
Cook carrots in boiling water. For the cream, heat up 2 spoonfuls of butter, let it melt, and put mushrooms in. Stir stir stir, and add a box/cup of fresh cream. Let the melted butter and the cream mix well, and then add some cheese.

Eh ben voilà!! Bonne appetite!!! :D

Hawaian Tart!

Hello readers! It has been a very long time since I last posted my latest recipe here! Well, uni started, and I get like tones of assignments and works every day! The good thing is that, there are more native speakers in our class, so talking with them can definitely improve my french!

So yesterday, I decided to try on baking a tart, but I didn't know what tart should I make. Chocolate tart? Too sweet. Egg tart? Well, not in the mood. Then I though, why not make a tuna tart, it should taste like pizza if I add some pineapples in it! So voilà! I went to the store nearby to get some sundries and started baking the tart! It's so easy u can definitely sing why baking it! Haha! (Lame) =P

Ingredients

2 cans of tuna (in tomato puree or anything you like, mayonnaise will taste good too)
Pineapple
A dash of pepper
Tart sheet
Cheeeeeeese!!

I used the tart sheet because I was too lazy too make the crust myself. Hehehe!

Preheat oven to 180° and then put the tart inside the oven! (20-25 minutes)

It looked like pizza right? And guess what, it tasted better than pizza! Lol!

A pinch of salt

For the "sambal" (chilly paste)

Chilly paste
3 shallots or onions
Some minced garlic

I don't have any cucumbers or anchovies with me, and I was kinda craving for nasi lemak, so I simply did it. Hehehe. Soooo yummy!!!

Powerpuff Currypuffs!!!

Last Wednesday, we had this Soirée Asiatique at uni. It's like an AFC party, they have asian foods there leaded by the japanese. I thought of making some curry puffs but I didn't have time as classes that day were from 8.30am till 3pm. I have like 2 hours left to rest and take a shower, so I only managed to make a few for my friends to break their fast. Sad issue though, only 2 of them get to taste the curry puffs as I didn't have the chance to let everybody take one, but it's ok, I can always bake some for others next time! :)

So here are the ingredients.

2 potatoes
Boneless chicken breast
Chilly paste
Coconut milk
Curry powder
Garlic
Oil

Slice the potatoes and mince the chicken meat into really small pieces.

Put like 2 tablespoon of oil into a pan, and fry some minced garlics just to get the small. Fry the chicken and the potatoes until tender, and then add in 4 tablespoons of chilly paste and 2 tablespoon of coconut milk into the pan. Use a spatula and fold in the ingredients in the pan and finally, add sprinkle some curry powder.

I used prepared flour sheets for tarts as I really do not have time to make the dough myself.

Put it into the oven on 180°C for about 25 minutes. Tadaaa!! Baked curry puffs!! :D

Chocolate Chip Muffins

Hello there. It has been quite long since I've updated this blog huh? Been, 5 days already! :P Well, something happened past few days, remember the buka puasa and the overnight session I mentioned in the previous post? Yeah. It wasn't really that fun I tell you. On Monday, as I was cleaning up my stuffs to go to class, I realized that I lost my purse. I remembered the last time I saw my purse it was in my handbag, the one that I bring to the buka puasa session. I could not find it and then I decided that my purse is lost!! Then I think and think again, I recall that Saturday, that very morning I walked back to my house, I took out my phone and I think, I think at the same time my purse fell on the road but I didn't realized. So, that Monday morning, I skipped class, went on search for my purse although I do know that I might not find my purse back. Then I called the bank, and I walked half way to the police station to report but I decided not to because.. I do not know. Haha! The thing is, I didn't even notice how I lost my purse and I couldn't find it when I wanna go to class. At first I thought I misplaced it but I searched the whole apartment and I still couldn't find it. Somebody else might have taken and go jolly with it, I thought. I have 60 euros in the wallet, my bank card and other membership cards are in it too, if I lodge a report I don't think I will be getting it back, so why hassle!

So Monday, I skipped 3 classes. It's sadistic, but what to do. Accidents happened all the time, and it was my turn then. Gotta be careful next time, like my sister said, always hold your purse or slip it in the jeans!! :D

Oh yeah before I forgot, I baked some chocolate chip muffins that day too but I didn't have time to post it on the blog because I was too sad and confused thinking about my lost purse and then the next day I went to class and I was too tired!! Ok ok here goes!! :D

200g of flour
60g of sugar
2 teaspoon of baking powder
30g of melted butter
1 egg
180ml of milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
1 cup of chocolate chips

2. Sift the flour, and add baking powder into a bowl.
3. Whisk egg with sugar and vanilla essence, add milk into the mixture.
4. Mix the 2 mixture with melted butter and fold it with a spatula. Add chocolate chips.
5. Pour into small paper cups and place it in the preheated oven.

Oops I did it again!! Hehehe!! I actually ate them for dinner and next morning's breakfast! And I gave them to 4 of my classmates. :)

Perfect Chocolate Cake!

Yesterday, I baked a chocolate moist cake for my fellow compatriots as they invited me to their buka puasa feast. I was so happy because it has been quite a while since I last had a good meal for dinner! They prepared Malay style Chicken Rice, and everyone ate on a very large platter. I never ate like that before, and seriously I had fun because we were like 5 surrounding the tray and we helped each other pouring the soup and sauces, this and that! I know other people might find this is disgusting but no! It wasn't and I definitely wanna do this again!! :D Oh yeah, we had Air Bandung as the beverage, and Puteri Mandi as appetizers. Oh my, my belly grew quite a little!! :P

So I was thinking since there are gonna be a lot of people, I should really bake a good cake for them as dessert, and also as a birthday gift for those I didn't bought present for. But at first I wasn't too confident about how my cake gonna turn out because it was my first time and I know baking cake is not easy if I only have my manual equipments with me. But, nahh. It turned out very good, indeed, I really felt so proud for my cake tasted absolutely delicious! Hehehe!

Ingredients

250g of butter
250g of sugar
3 eggs
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
300g of cake/all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
100g of cocoa powder
200g of cooking chocolate
Some chocolate chips for decoration.

1. Mix the flour, cocoa powder, and the baking soda in a bowl.
2. Whisk eggs with vanilla extract.
3. Melt butter with sugar.
4. Mix all those ingredients together and mix them well!
5. Melt the chocolate for toppings.

Flour, cocoa powder and baking soda.

Eggs and vanilla extract.

I poured the first half of the mixture into a tray and then I put in some chocolate chip before pouring the second half. Just for fun! :P

After baking.

Voilà!! Hehehe! Happy trying!! ^^

Almond Biscotti

Again from Happy Home Baking, I found this super cool recipe on how to bake Almond Biscotti! :) I recognized this pastry not from any other food blog or bakeries or café, I just happened to watch in Forensic Heroes 2 where Ivan (Kevin Cheng) personally baked those tasty biscuits for Bell (Charmaine Sheh). I love TVB so much, and those two actors/actresses are my favorite! Kevin is super handsome I wish I have a boyfriend who looks like him! Lol! I mean, he really has the perfect appearance and in all dramas he acted, there are always parts where he shows his romantic side!! And Charmaine, she is super stunning, I first watched her in this drama called Return of the Cuckoo and she was super cute with her short hair back then! But now, she's all grown up, so pretty and so hot! :D

Look how sweet Kevin is, telling Charmaine that biscotti goes very well with coffee. Indeed it does taste super nice!! :D

Awwww look at his cute face!! Enjoying biscottis under the yellow yolk! I want!! :P

Ok ok back to our recipe now! :P I thought baking this would be difficult just because of the fact that this biscuit is italian! (I always imagined how elegant italian pastries are!) But no! It was so easy for me and I think you guys can try this too!! :)

Ingredients

3 eggs
250g of plain flour
150g of sugar
1/2 tablespoon of baking powder
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
1 cup of almond

1. Preheat oven to 160°.
2. Mix flour, almond, sugar, and baking powder into a bowl.
3. Whisk the eggs with the vanilla extract and add into the bowl of flour.
4. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly.
5. Line a parchment paper on the pan and scoop half of the mixture and place it on top of the pan. Spread them out properly.
6. Bake for 35 minutes, remove them out to let cool.
7. Cut the log into slices.
8. Place the slices on the baking sheet and heat in the oven for around 20 minutes.
9. Let cool, and store into a container.

Flour, sugar, almond. I think it is better not to mix the almond together with the flour mixture because it will be difficult when you add the egg. So, add the egg and mix the mixture with a spatula, and then only add the almond.

Eggs

Mix mix!!

Spread on the parchment paper.

Take out, let cool.

Sliced!

Voilà!! Aren't they beautiful?? :D

Dip the biscotti into a cup of Bee Kopi!! It's very delicious!! :D

Voilà!! You see how easy it is to make biscotti?? And it's tasty too!! I think I will be baking this a lot of times because I really love the smell of the biscuit when I open the jar, and I love the taste of the dipped biscotti!! Mom would love to taste some because Mom loves to have some Hupseng cream crackers with Bee Kopi for tea! When I'm back to Malaysia next year I'll definitely bake some for Mom and for Dad as well! And for the rest of the family!! And also will bake some doggie cookies for Ryan n Dolly!! Yay I can't wait!! :D

Have fun baking!! ^^
